5 Laundry Hacks for Men

In a recent issue, we shared a simple life hack for divorced men about an easy way to de-wrinkle shirts. Are men notoriously bad with laundry? An article from Cosmopolitan magazine suggested so when it implied men are almost guaranteed to ruin at least one piece of clothing whiling doing laundry.

It doesn’t have to be this way. In this issue, the San Diego men’s divorce lawyers with the Men’s Legal Center will share a few laundry hacks that will have you looking your best.

  1. Don’t be in such a rush to do a wash after just one wearing.
You may feel dirty by wearing the same clothes several times before putting them in the wash, but you really should trust the accuracy of your nose. Washing your cloths too frequently can wear down the integrity of the fabric. As long as you’re showering regularly, you should be able to wear the same clothes several times – not consecutively – before washing. Trust your nose, for the nose knows.
  2. Use tinfoil to eliminate static.
This classic laundry hack is ideal for getting rid of static. After placing your clothes in the dryer, roll a couple of feet of tinfoil into a ball and add it to the load of clothes. The tinfoil will discharge the positively and negatively charged buildups during the drying cycle.
  3. Another way to smooth out a few wrinkles.
In addition to the ice-cube hack we shared in the previous article, you can substitute the ice with a few spritzes of water. This mainly works for lightly wrinkled clothes, so instead of ironing them, give them a few sprays from a water bottle and put them in the dryer for a few minutes.
  4. Limit the need for ironing.
You can reduce ironing time by washing smaller loads (this allows the clothes to tumble better) and hanging them up as soon as they come out of the washer. Another way to cut back on the ironing time is to have your dry cleaners add starch to your clothing.
  5. Eliminate the sweat stains.
A sure-fire way to get rid of nasty sweat stains is to mix a small amount of baking soda and water into a paste, and then rub it onto the stain. Let it sit for about an hour, then put the stained clothes into the washer with detergent and 1 cup of vinegar.
