Report States that Infidelity Not Biggest Reason for Divorce

Psychologists study many different issues, and one of the subjects that has long fascinated researchers is marriage, specifically what makes a marriage work and what tends to lead to divorce.  A recent survey was conducted to find out if what has historically been the leading cause of divorce in many places – divorce – was still at the top of the list.  To many people’s surprise, it wasn’t, and it’s leading many researchers to consider a different way of studying marriage and its intricacies.

Specifically, reports indicate that people in London and around the UK state that ‘falling out of love’ is the biggest reason for divorce in their part of the world.  In the United States, the biggest stated reason is a failure of communication in general.  While these are not scientific studies but rather surveys done with a cross-section of people, they indicate that the overall attitudes towards marriage and divorce are changing in the developed world.

For many years, infidelity was viewed as the biggest reason for divorce both in the UK and in the United States.  However, as people have gotten older before getting married for the first time and the overall attitude towards divorce has changed, so too have the believed reasons that this divorce process begins.
