Slander Lawsuit and Counterclaim Involving Marine

SAN DIEGO DIVORCE LAWYERS

Child Support Issues Lead to Slander Lawsuit and Counterclaim Involving Marine

When people get divorced and there are children of the marriage, there are two different kinds of support that can be ordered to be paid by the non-custodial parent.  These forms of support are child support and spousal support, and a failure to remain current on those payments can lead to serious legal consequences.  Unfortunately, confusion and conflicting stories can also lead to a legal mess for both parties if the problems are allowed to worsen.

That appears to be the case with ex-spouses who currently live in Texas.  According to a slander lawsuit filed by the former husband against his ex-wife, the husband made timely child support payments despite a few administrative hang-ups as he was stationed in different locations during his service with the Marine Corps.  He also claims that his former wife called superior officers and made false statements with regards to his payments.  He claims that these false statements have harmed his future earnings and assignments.

In response to this slander lawsuit, the former wife has filed a counterclaim stating that the former husband is abusing the legal process in an attempt to intimidate her and in an attempt to circumvent his spousal support obligations.  Neither of these legal claims has yet been settled or resolved, and the situation is expected to continue for what could be a lengthy legal battle.
