Attorney

Jonathan Rico Aviles was born and raised in San Diego, California, and is passionate about serving the people and community he proudly calls home. He understands the vital role parents play in the lives of their children and is committed to helping families navigate the difficult transition from a single-family household to a healthy co-parenting dynamic, while preserving and strengthening the parent-child relationship whenever possible.

As an attorney with Men’s Legal Center, Jonathan represents clients in divorce, child custody, child support, domestic violence, and other family law matters. He is dedicated to ensuring his clients feel heard, respected, and properly guided through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Jonathan is especially passionate about helping both men and women receive a fair and equal opportunity in court and believes every client deserves strong advocacy, fairness, and meaningful access to justice. He works diligently to help clients confidently navigate the legal system while protecting what matters most to them—their children, families, and future.

In addition to family law, Jonathan represents clients in domestic violence matters involving related criminal law components, as well as other criminal law matters. His broad legal experience has provided him with a strong foundation in courtroom advocacy, legal research, and client representation.

Jonathan earned his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in downtown San Diego. During law school, he gained experience in a variety of legal settings, serving as a judicial extern for both a United States District Judge and a United States Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of California. He also worked with the United States Attorney’s Office, the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office, and the California Innocence Project, where he further developed his passion for advocacy and justice.

Prior to law school, Jonathan attended California State University, Sacramento, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Journalism. During his time at Sacramento State, he interned in the California State Legislature, serving as a Communications Intern for the office of Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins and as a Legislative Intern for Assemblyman Jim Patterson.

Jonathan began his educational journey at San Diego City College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree with Honors in Journalism. While attending community college, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the campus newspaper, leading a team of student journalists and sharpening the communication, leadership, and analytical skills that continue to benefit his clients today. He also enjoyed writing sports articles and papers, particularly covering soccer, a lifelong passion of his.

Outside of the office, Jonathan enjoys attending Padres games, watching soccer matches, spending time with family, and volunteering through his church and local community events. A proud San Diegan, Jonathan is honored to serve the families of his hometown and remains committed to helping clients move forward with strength, confidence, and hope for the future.
