Imperial Valley to Combine with DCSS to Offer Child Support Help

Statistics have shown that currently, the total delinquent amount of child support owed in California is approximately $1 billion.  When parents fall behind and fail to pay their child support obligations, they can face serious penalties, compounded interest and can even be charged with a crime in many situations.  Most people tend to understand that taking these enforcement steps often does nothing to make the payment of child support more likely, particularly if a non-custodial parent does not have the income or funds to make these payments.

However, there is some good news for parents in Imperial Valley who could be facing this problem.  The Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program recently received a $4.8 million grant from the federal government, and part of that grant will be used to partner with the DCSS in order to provide help to parents who are delinquent on their child support payments in several different ways.

The project they are starting is known as the Padres project, and it will provide training with regards to finding employment by teaching interview techniques and resume writing.  It will also help them work towards making payments on their delinquent child support.  The goal of this program is not only to help payments start once again, but ultimately to increase the amount of contact between the non-custodial parents and their children.

Clearly, failing to pay child support is a serious societal problem, but there are many situations where the non-custodial parent simply cannot make those or often any other payments towards their obligations.  Putting someone in jail is often not a solution.  However, parents who are struggling with their child support obligations should not wait for a program to come about to help them.  Instead, they should be proactive in working to adjust those payments to an affordable level.

If you are facing problems with this issue, you need to seek the help of San Diego child support lawyers who have been helping fathers deal with this situation for many years.  Contact the Men’s Legal Center today to schedule an initial consultation.
