In addition, more than 50 percent of respondents stated that they had seen a rise in the number of postnuptial agreements during the same period of time.
The results of these surveys were surprising for people outside of the world of family law practitioners. Not only were these agreements seen generally as within the purview of the wealthy, but with the recent state of the economy many people simply did not have as many assets to protect. However, that’s precisely why certain people are taking this step – in order to protect the assets that they do have and to shield themselves from potentially debilitating debt such as student loans or other forms of debt.
