4 Tips To Healthy Grocery Shopping For Divorced Men

Food for health

Research tells us that men are more likely to gain weight than women following divorce. The leading reason is a tendency for unhealthy changes in diet – including a reliance on fast food and late night eating.

It doesn’t have to be that way, though. In this issue, the San Diego men’s divorce attorneys with the Men’s Legal Center will share tips for making sure you have healthy food choices on-hand to lead to a healthier and slimmer you.

How can I eat healthier after my divorce?

You don’t have to be the next Gordon Ramsey to have success in the kitchen. In a previous issue, we shared a few easy peasy recipes for single men. Just make sure you have the right tools, including a crockpot or slow cooker, a good set of pans, cutlery, and measuring utensils.

How can I shop healthy at the grocery story?

There’s an art form to healthy shopping in a grocery store, and it all revolves around getting in the right frame of mind before you take that first step inside.

  1. Make a list.
Take a few moments, and think about what you’d like to eat during the week. This doesn’t mean that you have to eat at home every night. Rather, it will make it likelier that you will have healthier options available when you do. Write down each item you think you’ll need. This greatly reduces the temptation for picking up the items that aren’t good for you.
  2. Concentrate on the unpackaged, fresh foods by shopping on the outer aisles.
Known as perimeter shopping, this takes you where the healthier food choices are, including fruits, veggies, lean protein, etc.
  3. Read the labels.
Yes, you are indeed what you eat. If you see a lot of oils, corn syrup, and fructose on the labels, it’s best to put it down. Instead, go for items with short labels that list natural ingredients.
  4. Load up on healthy snacks.
Men are notorious for preferring “grab-and-go” foods. Therefore, make sure you have healthy stuff to grab, including raw nuts, apples, carrots, banana, cheese, granola bars, and oranges.
