For generations, people have believed that even if a marriage encounters problems, parents of children will likely make an effort to remain together for the good of the whole family.  While many people do make this effort, most experts agree that deciding to remain in an unhappy marriage often leads to more harm for those who live in the home than good.  However, recent statistical analyses have led to a surprising result with regards to how this belief may be prevalent.

Specifically, a recent analysis of the divorced couples in the United States revealed that 66 percent of them were childless during their marriage together and that less than 40 percent of divorced people being those who had children with their former spouses.  This statistic was one that surprised many in different professional fields, and it also had experts offering many different explanations as to why this would be the case.

One of the most common explanations offered is that when people do not have children, it is easier to complete a divorce.  While it's true that there will be no issues surrounding child custody and child support in these divorces, they can still become extremely complicated for different reasons.  Others have basically echoed the sentiment that people will generally stay together for longer if there are children present in the home.  At this point, no one is sure why this statistical reality exists.
